Comments |
Derived by adaptation of primary cell culture product ATCC® VR-235™ to NRK (ATCC® CRL-6509™) cells. ATCC® VR-235™ and ATCC® VR-1790™ have not been compared for sequence or infectivity in primary cell culture and tissue culture. The virus produces acute fatal disease, stunted growth, or latent infection in hamsters (i.c.), depending on dose of virus and age of animals. Spontaneous transmission from infected to uninoculated hamsters may occur. Virus from tissues of cell cultures will agglutinate guinea pig red blood cells at room temperature. Morphology resembles that of polyoma virus. |
Effect on Host |
CPE, cell rounding, degeneration, cytoplasmic bridging |
Recommended Host |
NRK (ATCC® CRL-6509™) |
Growth Conditions |
Temperature: 37°C
Recommendations for Infection: Plate cells 24 hours prior to infection and infect when cultures are 40-60% confluent. Remove medium and inoculate with a small volume of virus (e.g. 1 mL per 25 cm2) diluted to provide an optimal MOI (e.g. 0.1). Adsorb 1-2 hours at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, rocking every 15-20 minutes to redistribute inoculum. End adsorption by adding virus growth medium.
Incubation: 2-7 days |
